The Tribe of Black Night

Feather dipped her head. She glanced at leaf and purred. "you'll have to guard the camp. You know, protect everyone." her mild joking helped a little bit to lighten the wreched feeling of grief that continued to swell in her gut, threatening to outsize her and suffocate her. She took a long deep breath and followed dew to the moontree.

It was a long jouney to moontree, and an exasting one without travelling herbs. By the time they stood beteen the arched entracnce to the cave, the moon was already rising.
"We have no time to lose. We can hunt later. I want you to come into the cave with me." Dew said, and stepped into the darkness. It was freezing inside, and smelled of earth and ancient cats. It would be Feather's first time to the moontree, and this was why she had chosen her.

Feather gazed around the cave, her eyes struggling to adjust to the darkness. She inhaled the stale scent, which was mixed with the crisp smell of the previous drizzle that hung in the air and clung to feathers fur. Her heart beat with excitement and anticipation, and she flexed her claws, feeling them scrape satisfyingly on the stoney ground. "if I'm going to be the healer" she whispered, although nobody else would hear her anyways, "do I need to dream too? Will starclan train me?"

Soon the cave opened up, and in the middle was a beautiful oak that glittered like a thousand diamonds in silver and gold as the light shone down in it. The sight of the tree never failed to amaze Dew. There could be no speaking in this sacred place, except for in rituals, and so she flicked her tail, telling Feather to lie down and watch. Slowly she took a step forward, then with a short runup she leaped into the tree. As soon as she closed her eyes she was dreaming.
She stood in a clearing that resembled the camp. She was just as alone as she had been now however. "StarClan, have you no answers for me?" She wailed.
Suddenly she broke into a bound of coughting, and she began suffocating. Just then a Golden Eagle flew past. One of it's feathers came swirling down, and touched her on the nose. Suddenly the coughing stopped.
Feather must become the new medicine cat! She realised.
Then a StarClan cat flew down from the heavens. She immidiatly recognised the features of the starry cat. "Pebble in the River!" She shouted in amazement. She had never thought to see the old medicine cat again.
"Yes Dew," he said. I have observed the Tribe, and I am afraid there is nothing I can do for you. Thing will settle down for themselves... however, what I have also seen is that there is a very keen young cat willing to take up the practise of healing. Let her come forth here at the next half moon."
"Yes, of course Pebble. I have never doubted you." And with that the dream began to fade and she found herself back on the moontree again.

Feather flicked her tail when dew didn't answer her question, but she settled next to dew by the tree, dazed by it. Dew sat unusually still, after a while of not moving even the slightest bit Feather began to be concerned. Is she dead? feather thought. She considered rousing dew to see if she was ok, but she heard a soft voise murmur in her head, "she's ok. Just wait." confused feather looked around, but saw nothing but the fading haze of the tree.

When Dew woke the cave was at it's darkest point. The moon was probably disappearing over the horizon on one side, which would mean that it was sunrise. She stretched and leapt down from the tree, heading towards the entrance. She didn't break pace as she signaled for Feather to follow her.

Feather rose stiffly to her paws and staggered after Dew. After her muscles loosened up she matched Dews pace.

After her dream, Dew was feeling both enlightened and concerned. Was everything really so bad that it was beyond StarClan's powers? And was really right for Feather to become healer? She would have to give up so much... and the Tribe still needed warriors.

Feather glanced at Dew, tempted to ask her about her dream, but she knew Dew wasn't allowed to share.

Dew continued to walk in silence. She would have to tell Feather StarClan's wishes sometime. Perhaps it would be a good idea to tell her now, while they were in private? She fough for words, "I was told by StarClan.." She beggan.

Feaher pricked her ears and listened to dew.

Feather's interest encouraged her, ".. that you seem very interested in the art of healing. They believe that you should be the Tribe's new Healer."

Feather stared at dew for a heartbeat, and then began to purr. Will starclan train me?

"Do you accept this role? You will be giving up much." Dew warned, but knew that if it was her destiny, then nothing would change her mind. "You will meet StarClan in four days at the Half Moon to beggin your training."

Feather ndded. She enjoyed kits, but she never felt the desire to mother her own. As for bloodshed and fighting, although she admired those who risk their blood and lives to protect their clan, she couldn't imagine hurting someone on purpose. Healing, learning, and knowing is all of the strengh she needs. "I look forward to it."
